"Back to Mac" Event

As you may have heard, Apple are holding their latest special event, "Back to Mac", which has a focus solely on the Mac family. There's a lot of speculation about what's going to be announced, from a touch screen iMac, to an update on their world renowned operating system, Mac OS X. The fact is that some of these rumors will be true, but the majority false.

On the invitation to the event, there is an Apple logo, which is slightly turned to reveal a lion - the king of the "Mac OS Jungle", giving pretty solid evidence that the next release of OS X will be called "Lion".

Update: We've been told by Apple that there will be a live stream of the event at 6pm GMT (10am PDT).

Angry Birds HD

Angry Birds HD is the iPad equivalent of the long standing no. 1 app on the iPhone's App Store. The success that Angry Birds for iPhone has gained has made Angry Birds HD an instant iPad success, travelling straight to number 2 of the top Paid apps - with good reason. I'll start off with a bit of information about the game, and why the birds are so angry! The green pigs have stolen the birds prized possessions - their eggs. You control the birds in their mission to destroy the pig's forts and get the eggs back!

Angry Birds HD for Mac Gameplay Video

Here's our video of us playing the new Angry Birds HD for Mac! This was the first app we downloaded from the Mac App Store.

Click here to view the video on our site, or click here to view it on our YouTube channel.

With the recent release of iOS 4.3 to developers, I've noticed that, on the download page, "iPhone 3G" and "iPod Touch 2nd Generation" are not listed. This almost certainly means that Apple are phasing out software updates for iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2nd Generation.

Some of the new features in iOS 4.3 are:

Effective from today, it has been reported that Apple will be scrapping the 10 percent re-stocking fee for returned goods to its retail stores. Some conditions of this are that the product must be in reasonable condition, and be returned within a certain period of time.

The idea around the fee was to cover costs to repackage and return to its original condition - fair enough - but not when people want to upgrade their products, for example.

Apple Support Customer Gets Sued

A support company, which has been officially authorised by Apple, has sued a customer for "complaining". Dimitris Papadimitriadis, a greek Apple support customer, had a few issues with his iMac, and decided - by Apple's suggestion - to take it into an authorised service centre, Systemgraph - A decision he later regretted.

After dropping his iMac off at the service centre, with dark patches on the screen, he was informed that the repair would consist of replacing the LCD screen, and an interior & exterior clean. When he received the iMac back, he felt that the state of the iMac had actually gotten worse. Damp patches behind the screen, and the same LCD screen were just a couple of the issues he faced. The customer had this to say (translated):

"I insisted that such computer ceases to be credible and relied on Article 540 of the Civil Code and section 5 of Act 2251, pursuant to which I have legal right to ask for a refund or replacement with my new PC under warranty."

Systemgraph refused to provide a refund, because he didn't buy the iMac from them, So, like many would, he posted his story on a popular internet forum. Systemgraph found this post, and later sued him for €200,000 (~£170,000 / ~$265,000) with the claim that he had damaged the reputation of his company.

A court case is due to take place on the 19th January 2011.

Apple's Hate for Flash Continues

At the "Back to Mac" event on Wednesday, Apple announced their new update to the Mac line, the MacBook Air. Well, it seems that Apple are now shipping this new Mac with the lack of Adobe Flash. Is this a further display of Apple's hate of Flash, as with the lack of Flash on the iPad and other iOS devices, or is this for 'security purposes'?

Apple have told Engadget that this news is not a display of hate, and is simply for security purposes;

"We're happy to continue to support Flash on the Mac, and the best way for users to always have the most up to date and secure version is to download it directly from Adobe."

Cut The Rope (HD)

Cut The Rope / Cut The Rope HD has instantly hit the top spot on the app store, and it's not hard to find out why! The main aim of the game, and I say the main game because there are many more aspects, is to cut ropes that are suspending candy inside a cardboard box with an aim to get it in the green monsters' mouth. Other aspects of the game include bubbles, blowing machines and spikes - along with extendable and retractable ropes.
