Another game brought to us by our friends at Chillingo, and I have to say I am impressed. Normally I don’t really like arcade layouts on games but the retro style simply blew me away! The grunge effect was also a nice touch. The 3D graphics are really quite interesting to give a kind of “Nintendo 3DS” kind of feel but the graphics of the actual wrestling should see improvement.
The storyline is based around saving an energy drink from extinction from an, obviously, evil master. The whole game is loosely related to Mexican Luchador wrestling which the music supports.
The most interesting aspects of Street Wrestler are its crazy art style, setting, and sense of humour. Since game takes place in the wacky world of Luchador wrestling, where Mexican masked wrestlers clash with hilarious fights as the action is punctuated by bizarre humour. A few of our favourite examples of Street Wrestler's quirky personality include a giant chicken (which if you kick, you get the energy drink), a deadly bomb-tossing robot piñata, and henchmen randomly mowed down by out-of-control trains.
The controls need work as they are a dodgy and after you complete the story, even for every different character, it does become boring. Maybe a multiplayer mode would suffice. The fact that it isn’t free really puts the game down. Basically it’s a game which is pretty average but is saved by the sheer madness and humour of it.
