Winds of Steel is an Android based game developed by DeckEleven Entertainment that brings the thrill and excitement of a WWII action/shooter to the viewpoint of Japanese and American fighter pilots. Once you get into the mood of the game, you will encounter hours of addictive game play.
Just like a console based game, the main menu is comprised of a Campaign feature, Instant Action feature, Options feature, and to get more games from that developer, a More Apps feature.
The campaign is a jump around story line that shows the major battles of WWII - Pacific theater. You can select from any battle to play. You do not have to unlock levels to advance, but I suggest that you play in order to get the full feel and order of how the battles took place.
Instant Action gives you game modes to free play with. You can choose from Dogfight, Naval Battle, Amphibious Assault, or Bombing Run.
The graphic of Winds of Steel have a very pre-Call of Duty 3 feel. I use that expression loosely though, as I do not expect that great of graphics from a amateur studio. The graphics of the game are good enough to have a pleasure in the game and do not make you wish you never got the game.
Here is the cool part! Your plane is controlled by how you move your phone. Tilt your phone forward, your plane's altitude will decrease, tilt back and it will increase. Left and right? Well, that is self explanatory. There is a fire button on the right of the screen to fire your weapon, and a change weapon button at the bottom right of the screen to change between your machine gun and bombs.
Overall, Winds of Steel is a very addictive game. The AI will present a challenge, but one must use their pilot skills to overcome the enemy! I do suggest training in the Instant Action mode before starting your campaign. The first level of the campaign will train you how to use the plane though.
Happy flying!
